George Mueller was a great man of prayer. He started five orphanages with just 50 cents, and never once did he ask anyone for anything. In George Mueller’s like, over $7,000,000.00 was donated to the upkeep and building of the orphanages. But George Mueller did not build the orphanages simply because he loved children. The following is a testimony from George Mueller as to why he began the orphanages.
“If I, a poor man, simply by prayer and faith, obtained without asking any individual, the means for establishing and carrying on an Orphan-House, there would be something which, with the Lord’s blessing, might be instrumental in strengthening the faith of the children of God, besides being a testimony to the consciences of the unconverted, of the reality of the things of God. This, then, was the primary reason for establishing the Orphan-House.… The first and primary object of the work was (and still is:) that God might be magnified by the fact, that the orphans under my care are provided for.” – George Mueller
George Mueller began the orphanage ministry so that God would be glorified. Through his prayer and faith in His God, God is still glorified through George Mueller’s testimony.
I wonder why we do what we do for God? If we are doing it for any other reason then the glory of God’s name, then we need to reconsider doing it.
“In the whole work we desire to stand with God, and not to depend upon the favourable or unfavourable judgment of the multitude.” – George Mueller
Are You a Morning Person?
In May of this year, we found out that we would have to move out of our rented home because the owner was selling it. That same evening my wife went on craigslist and God led us to another home to rent that very night. And it was only two blocks from our old house! It amazes me sometimes that God is so good to us. I am also thankful for Craig and his list. On May 10th, we moved into our new home, which is also a rental. One of the benefits, for me, in moving to this new house, was an office on the second floor of our house. In our old house, my office was in our unfinished basement. That meant my decor was cinderblock walls and a cement floor. It was freezing down there in the middle of summer or winter. Let’s just say it wasn’t very conducive to studying. In our new house, my office has carpet on the floor, painted walls, and even a little balcony that I can use! (more…)
The Truth
In Toronto where I live, nearly 38 percent of all the residents have been born outside of Canada. We are truly a multicultural city and with the influx of immigrants comes religious pluralism. As I was going door to door this week witnessing, on just one street I met a Jehovah’s Witness, several Catholics, a Hindu family, a Christian Orthodox man, and a Seventh Day Adventist. They were all people of different nationalities and different religions. (more…)
