Whistler workshops to examine China strategies

June 16,2010

A leading expert on China-Canada relations will be among the presenters taking part in a series of workshops planned for this weekend, examining future ties between the two countries and the Sea to Sky corridor place in it.

Pitman Potter, chair of Asian Research at UBC and of the China Working Group for the Canadian International Council, will be part of the three workshops taking place Friday and Saturday (June 18 and 19).

The workshops, collectively titled “Building a Corridor China Strategy: Sports and Recreation, Education and Learning, Business and Investment,” are being presented by the Whistler Forum for Leadership and Dialogue.

“With occupancy rates low, the real estate market soft and no corridor economic development plan, developing an effective China strategy in Whistler and the Sea to Sky corridor is a challenge worth meeting,” said William Roberts, Whistler Forum president. “With traditional markets in trouble, leadership requires strategically connecting with emerging markets, especially China.”

Public events are planned on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Whistler Public Library and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce boardroom at the Gatehouse Building, above the Visitor Information Centre. Admission is by donation, with a suggested donation of $10. For more information please visit www.whistlerforum.com
